AI Enablement Engineer - (Remote)

Remote
Full Time
Mid Level
About Mentor Collective:

At Mentor Collective, we believe human connection is the key to student success. We partner with higher education institutions to deliver transformative mentoring experiences.

We are entering an exceptionally exciting phase of growth: launching a brand-new product, refreshing our visual brand, and actively integrating AI and agentic workflows into how we build and deliver software. We operate as a nimble, highly collaborative team with a supportive engineering culture, an ambitious product vision, and a genuinely rewarding market to serve.

About the role:
We're consolidating our engineering and company-wide tooling around Claude and Cursor, and
we're looking for the person who turns that consolidation into a real capability advantage. This is
not a role focused on shipping one integration and moving on. It's a mandate to become the
internal expert on applied AI at Mentor Collective, and to spend that expertise everywhere it can
create leverage: engineering, product, marketing, sales, customer support, and operations.

You'll spend part of your time deep in our codebase, building the workflows, agents, and tooling
that make engineers faster with Claude and Cursor, including agent pipelines that take a task
from a Slack message or Jira ticket all the way to a tested pull request. You'll spend the rest of
your time outside engineering, sitting with other teams, understanding how they work today, and
finding the automation and velocity gains hiding in their day-to-day. You're comfortable being the
person who has to explain a new workflow to a non-technical teammate as clearly as you'd
explain an architecture decision to an engineer.

This role reports to the CTO and works cross-functionally with every team lead in the company.

What you'll do:
  • Own the rollout and continued adoption of Claude and Cursor as our standard AI tooling,
including workflows, prompt and skill libraries, and internal documentation that make them
easy for anyone to pick up.
  • Design and build end-to-end agentic workstreams: a task is assigned from Slack or Jira, a
Cursor agent plans the approach, writes the code, runs tests, and opens a pull request, with
clear checkpoints for human review before anything merges.
  • Partner with engineering to build agentic workflows, custom tooling, and automation that
measurably speed up how the team ships software.
  • Partner with product on rapid, in-session prototyping: use Claude and Claude Code to stand
up and iterate on features live, so the team can get direct customer feedback on working
    software instead of static mockups.
  • Go org by org (product, marketing, sales, customer support, operations) to identify manual,
repetitive, or slow processes, and build or configure AI-driven solutions that remove the
    friction.
  • Act as the internal trailblazer: run pilots, gather feedback, kill what doesn't work, and scale
    what does.
  • Train and support non-engineering teams so they can use AI tools confidently and safely,
without needing an engineer in the loop for everyday tasks.
  • Establish guardrails for autonomous and semi-autonomous agent work, including required
human review, testing, and CI gates before agent-generated code reaches production, in
partnership with engineering and security leadership on anything that touches student,
    mentor, or partner data.
  • Track and report on the impact of AI enablement work, tying it back to concrete velocity,
    quality, or capacity gains.
  • Stay current on the Claude and Cursor product roadmaps and the broader AI tooling
landscape and bring back what's relevant to Mentor Collective before we're asked for it.
What you'll bring:
  • You use Claude and Cursor every day, right now. Deep, current, hands-on knowledge of
both tools, not conceptual familiarity, including their agent modes, extensibility, and rough
    edges.
  • 7+ years in a software engineering, developer productivity, or technical enablement role.
  • Direct experience building or operating agentic workflows that take work from a lightweight
trigger, such as a Slack message or Jira ticket, through planning, code changes, and
    automated testing with minimal handholding.
  • A track record of building tools, scripts, or workflows that other people adopted and relied
on, not just proofs of concept.
  • Comfort moving between deep technical work and plain-language conversations with nontechnical
teammates. You can hold both in the same day.
  • Strong instincts for what's worth automating versus what isn't, and the judgment to prioritize
    impact over novelty.
  • Experience or clear interest in change management: you know that a great workflow no one
adopts isn't a win, and you know how to get adoption.
  • A security- and privacy-conscious mindset. You default to asking “should this AI workflow
touch this data” before “can it,” you build in review gates for anything an agent pushes
toward production, and you're comfortable looping in security and compliance on anything
involving student, mentor, or institutional data.
  • Excellent written communication. A lot of this role is documentation, training material, and
clear explanations of new ways of working.
Nice to have:
  • Experience introducing a new tool or platform company-wide, from pilot to standard practice.
  • Familiarity with education technology, FERPA-related data handling, or working with
    institutional partners.
  • Experience building internal AI agents, MCP servers, or custom Claude/Cursor integrations.
  • Experience partnering directly with product or design on rapid prototyping and live, in-session
    coding for customer feedback.
What success looks like:
Within the first two quarters, engineering has adopted Claude and Cursor as its default tools with
workflows that noticeably speed up delivery, at least one end-to-end agentic workstream is live
and trusted (task in, reviewed pull request out), and at least two non-engineering teams have
working AI-assisted processes that they run themselves, day to day, without needing you in the
room.

Why Mentor Collective:
You'll have a mandate few AI enablement roles get: real executive sponsorship, a company small
enough that your changes are felt immediately, and a mission — helping students find belonging
and stay in school through mentoring — that gives the efficiency you create somewhere
meaningful to go.
